Hailing from the dramatic, volcanic cliffs of Madeira, Pereira D'Oliveira's Verdelho Reserva represents a masterclass in the island's historic medium-dry style. The Verdelho grape, historically favored by British merchants and famously mentioned in Shakespeare's plays, thrives on the steep, terraced vineyards carved into the island's basalt slopes. This Reserva is crafted using the traditional canteiro method, where the wine is aged in seasoned oak casks placed in warm lofts, allowing natural heat to gently oxidize and concentrate the liquid over years. This process mimics the legendary ocean voyages of the 17th and 18th centuries, during which barrels of Madeira were transformed by the tropical heat of ship holds. D'Oliveira's signature style shines through in this bottling, offering a brilliant balance of high, tangy acidity and a complex, smoky, dried-fruit sweetness.
