✨ Technical Specifications
Philippe Charlopin's Vieilles Vignes (Old Vines) red Burgundy bottlings represent a masterful marriage of old-vine concentration and the legendary winemaking philosophy of his mentor, Henri Jayer. Utilizing Pinot Noir vines that are often over 50 years old, Charlopin coaxes out an extraordinary depth of flavor, natural sweetness, and silky texture. These old vines, with their deep root systems, tap into the complex clay-limestone soils of the Côte d'Or, yielding small, highly concentrated berries. Charlopin's signature approach—complete destemming, cold pre-fermentation maceration, and aging in fine French oak—results in a red Burgundy of remarkable richness, supple tannins, and intense aromatic complexity, characterized by luscious dark cherries, forest floor, and sweet spice.
🍾 About the Producer
Established in 1977 by Philippe Charlopin with a modest 1.5-hectare parcel in Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Charlopin-Parizot has expanded to encompass 25 hectares spanning the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and Chablis. Philippe Charlopin honed his craft under the mentorship of the revered Henri Jayer, deeply absorbing the master's doctrine of low yields, strict fruit selection, and complete destemming. Today co-managed alongside his son Yann, who directs white winemaking, the domaine cultivates limestone- and clay-rich terroirs using sustainable viticultural practices. In the cellar, vinification emphasizes extended cold macerations, indigenous yeast fermentation, and prolonged aging in French oak barrels without fining. The domaine's benchmark portfolio is renowned for textural density, silky tannins, and aromatic purity, anchored by premier crus like Pernand-Vergelesses and village cuvées such as Gevrey-Chambertin Terres Blanches and Vieilles Vignes, alongside celebrated Grand Cru expressions including Charmes-Chambertin, Clos Vougeot, and Chambertin.
