✨ Technical Specifications
Sasso al Poggio, translating to "stone of the hill," is a modern tribute to the rugged, sun-drenched clay and limestone hillsides of Tuscany. Produced by the historic Piccini family, whose winemaking legacy in the region dates back to 1882, this wine is crafted in the classic "Super Tuscan" style. It harmoniously combines the vibrant, cherry-driven soul of native Sangiovese with the structure and deep dark-fruit profile of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The grapes are sourced from select hillside vineyards where rocky soils naturally limit yields, resulting in rich concentration. Following fermentation, the wine is aged in oak barriques for around 12 months, imparting elegant layers of sweet spice, leather, and vanilla to the robust dark fruit core.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1882 by Angiolo Piccini and Maria Teresa Totti in the heart of Chianti, Piccini has evolved over five generations into one of Italy's most celebrated and dynamic family-run wine enterprises. Guided today by Mario Piccini, the family balances deep-rooted Tuscan heritage with forward-thinking winemaking across an esteemed portfolio of estate vineyards. The producer is renowned for its expressive Sangiovese-driven wines, ranging from benchmark Chianti Classico and refined Brunello di Montalcino from Villa al Cortile to innovative cuvées like the pan-Italian blend Memoro and the Super Tuscan Sasso al Poggio.
