Named in honor of the legendary Charles de Batz de Castelmore, better known as d'Artagnan—the famous captain of the Musketeers born nearby in Gascony—this wine captures the rustic, noble spirit of the Saint Mont appellation. Crafted by the visionary Plaimont cooperative, the R eserve d'Artagnan Rouge is grown on the rolling hillsides of the Pyrenean foothills, where clay, limestone, and variegated sandy soils impart structure and freshness. The blend is anchored by Tannat, the region's flagship grape known for its deep color and robust structure, complemented by the aromatic, red-fruit character of Pinenc (Fer Servadou) and the elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon. Vinified to preserve the vibrant fruit character while softening the powerful Tannat tannins, this wine undergoes traditional fermentation followed by careful aging, resulting in a harmonious, deeply expressive red that speaks of Gascon heritage and terroir.
🍾 wine.about_producer
Established in 1979 under the visionary leadership of André Dubosc, Plaimont is a pioneering cooperative union located in Saint-Mont within the Gers department of South-West France. By uniting the historic cellars of Plaisance, Aignan, and Saint-Mont, the producer has become a champion for reviving and safeguarding the indigenous heritage grape varieties of the Pyrenean foothills, such as Tannat, Pinenc, Gros Manseng, and Arrufiac. Plaimont is globally renowned for its commitment to ampelographic preservation, famously tending to a historic, pre-phylloxera vineyard parcel that is classified as an official French historic monument. Their diverse portfolio spans expressive, fresh whites, robust reds, and vibrant rosés, exemplified by the Fleur d'Artagnan range and the celebrated late-harvest Saint Albert and Saint Sylvestre wines.
