In July 1981, the world watched in fascination as Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer wed in St Paul's Cathedral. For the wedding breakfast, the royal family selected Pol Roger—a house long favored by British royalty and famously adored by Sir Winston Churchill. The champagne served in magnums for this historic occasion was the Pol Roger Vintage 1973, which was also presented in a limited commemorative bottling decorated for the Royal Wedding. This exceptional cuvée represents the pinnacle of Pol Roger's vintage style, sourcing grapes exclusively from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards in the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. Crafted with the house's signature precision, the wine underwent primary fermentation in cool stainless steel before undergoing extensive aging in the deep, cold chalk cellars of Épernay, resulting in a Champagne of majestic complexity, fine mousse, and legendary longevity.
