The Port Ellen 11th Release 32 Year Old is a legendary monument to Islay's distilling history, distilled in 1979 during the twilight years of the original distillery before its closure in 1983. Released in 2011 as part of Diageo's highly anticipated annual Special Releases, this rare single malt represents a bygone era of Scotch production. Port Ellen's spirit is celebrated for its unique, complex profile that marries intense, oily peat smoke with maritime sea spray, soft leather, and delicate citrus notes. Port Ellen blev grundlagt i 1825 af Alexander Mackay på Islays sydkyst og står i dag som et af de mest ikoniske og ærefrygtindgydende navne i skotsk whiskyhistorie. Efter en række udvidelser under Distillers Company Limited (i dag Diageo) lukkede destilleriet under whiskybranchens krise i 1983. Det opnåede hurtigt en mytisk status som et såkaldt 'spøgelsesdestilleri', indtil det efter en gennemgribende og omhyggelig genopbygning genåbnede dørene i 2024.
