The Port Ellen Special Releases, spanning from the 1st Release in 2001 to the 17th and final consecutive release in 2017, represent one of the most legendary chapters in spirits history. Following the distillery's closure in 1983, these annual cask-strength bottlings by Diageo meticulously charted the maturation of Port Ellen's remaining 'ghost' stocks. Distilled primarily in the late 1970s and early 1980s, this series showcases the evolution of the distillery's iconic character: a sublime marriage of intense peat smoke, maritime sea spray, oily citrus, damp leather, and a unique, waxy industrial complexity.
