✨ Technical Specifications
Hailing from the prestigious Agliano Terme region in Piedmont, Prunotto's Costamiole Riserva is a profound expression of 100% Barbera. The historic Prunotto estate, which dates back to the early 20th century when Alfredo Prunotto saved a local cooperative, has long been a pioneer in quality-driven Piedmontese winemaking. Costamiole is sourced from a prized single vineyard characterized by calcareous clay soils that impart remarkable structure and minerality. To craft this Riserva, the grapes undergo careful maceration followed by aging in French oak barriques. This process tames Barbera's naturally high acidity, wrapping its dark cherry and plum flavors in warm spices, cocoa, and subtle toasted notes, resulting in a robust, velvety wine that challenges the traditional view of Barbera as merely an everyday drinker.
🍾 About the Producer
Originally established in 1904 as the cooperative 'Ai Vini delle Langhe', the estate was acquired and redefined by visionary winemaker Alfredo Prunotto in 1922, establishing a legacy of excellence in Alba, Piedmont. After decades of pioneering single-vineyard cru bottlings under the Colla family, the historic estate became part of the Marchesi Antinori family in 1989, blending centuries-old Tuscan heritage with classic Piedmontese tradition. Prunotto champions precision viticulture and terroir-focused winemaking across the region's top terroirs, crafting legendary Nebbiolo expressions such as Barolo Bussia and Barbaresco Bric Turot alongside vibrant Barbera d'Asti, Roero Arneis, and fine grappas.
