Hailing from the formidable hills of Serralunga d'Alba in the heart of Piedmont, this Riserva by the historic Prunotto estate represents the pinnacle of traditional Nebbiolo. Founded originally as a cooperative in 1904 before being revitalized by Alfredo Prunotto in 1922, the estate has long been a pioneer in defining single-commune expressions. The soils of Serralunga—dense with limestone, clay, and iron-rich marls from the ancient Helvetian epoch—impart an uncompromising structure, deep tannins, and intense minerality to the wine. Crafted only in exceptional vintages, this Riserva undergoes extended maceration and is aged for a minimum of five years, including significant time in large oak casks. This patient maturation tames the fierce Nebbiolo tannins, revealing a complex tapestry of dried roses, tar, dark cherries, licorice, and forest floor.

Prunotto traces its origins to 1904 when the cooperative Cantina Sociale 'Ai Vini delle Langhe' was established in Serralunga d'Alba, later rescued and rechristened by Alfredo Prunotto in the 1920s. Under legendary winemaker Beppe Colla from 1956, the estate emerged as a pioneer of single-vineyard bottlings in Piedmont, famously producing the benchmark Barolo Bussia beginning with the 1961 vintage. Owned by Tuscany's Marchesi Antinori family since 1994, Prunotto stewards approximately 65 hectares across prime sites in the Langhe and Monferrato. Viticulture leverages the region's classic mosaic of calcareous clay and Tortonian marl, capturing distinctive diurnal shifts and microclimatic nuance. In the cellar, vinification balances traditional large-format cask maturation with refined contemporary precision.
