Grandjo's history is deeply tied to the Quinta do Casal da Granja, a historic estate acquired by Real Companhia Velha in the mid-18th century. The name 'Grandjo' itself is a traditional contraction of 'Granja'. While the estate originally gained fame for its sweet white wines, the Grandjo Reserva Tinto represents a modern, dry expression of this historic terroir. Sourced from the cooler, high-altitude vineyards of Alijó in the Douro Superior, the grapes benefit from significant diurnal temperature shifts, preserving freshness and aromatic complexity. This Reserva red is crafted using traditional Douro varieties, aged in oak casks to develop a structured, elegant profile rich in dark berry fruits, subtle spice, and the signature mineral edge of the region's schist soils.
