Porca de Murça is one of Portugal's most historic and popular wine brands, launched by Real Companhia Velha in 1928. The name pays homage to the legendary 'Sow of Murça' (Porca de Murça), a prehistoric granite monument in the Douro region associated with folklore of a giant wild boar that once roamed the local forests. Crafted as an accessible, everyday expression of the Douro Valley's rugged terroir, this red wine is sourced from vineyards planted on classic schist soils. To preserve its vibrant fruit character, the wine is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with no oak aging. The resulting style is remarkably fresh, medium-bodied, and dominated by bright red fruit aromas, smooth tannins, and balanced acidity, representing a classic, approachable Douro blend.

Founded in 1756 by Royal Charter of King José I under the guidance of the Marquis of Pombal, Real Companhia Velha is the oldest and most historic wine enterprise in Portugal. With its storied maturation cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and sprawling estate vineyards across the Douro Valley, the company was central to the creation of the world's first officially demarcated wine region.
