Quinta de Cidro, located in the high-altitude plateau of São João da Pesqueira in the Douro Superior, has long been Real Companhia Velha's pioneering estate for international grape varieties. Acquired in 1972, this historic property sits at an elevation of nearly 600 meters, where cooler temperatures and clay-rich soils diverge from the Douro's typical hot, schistous slopes. This unique microclimate proved ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon, which finds a structured, elegant expression here. When blended with Touriga Nacional, Portugal's flagship red grape, the result is a fascinating dialogue between international structure and local character. The Cabernet Sauvignon provides firm tannins, cassis notes, and leafy complexity, while the Touriga Nacional infuses the blend with intense floral aromas of violets, dark berry fruit, and a velvety texture. Aged in French oak, this wine showcases the innovative spirit of Portugal's oldest wine company, marrying centuries of tradition with bold viticultural experimentation.

Real Companhia Velha blev grundlagt i 1756 ved kongeligt dekret af kong José I under ledelse af Marquês de Pombal og er Portugals ældste og mest historiske vinhus. Med sine legendariske modningskældre i Vila Nova de Gaia og vidtstrakte vinmarker i Dourodalen spillede huset en afgørende rolle i etableringen af verdens første officielt afgrænsede vinregion.
