Quinta de Cidro, located in Sao Joao da Pesqueira, is one of the Douro's most historic and experimental estates. Acquired by Real Companhia Velha in 1972, this property boasts a grand palace built by the Marquis of Soveral and has become a pioneering hub for international grape varieties in Portugal. Situated at an altitude of nearly 600 meters, the vineyard benefits from a cool microclimate that defies the intense heat of the Douro Valley. This high-altitude terroir is crucial for the Quinta de Cidro Sauvignon Blanc, allowing the grapes to retain their natural acidity and intense aromatic profile. Founded in 1756 by Royal Charter of King José I under the guidance of the Marquis of Pombal, Real Companhia Velha is the oldest and most historic wine enterprise in Portugal.
