Quinta de Cidro, located in Sao Joao da Pesqueira, is one of the Douro's most historic and experimental estates. Acquired by Real Companhia Velha in 1972, this property boasts a grand palace built by the Marquis of Soveral and has become a pioneering hub for international grape varieties in Portugal. Situated at an altitude of nearly 600 meters, the vineyard benefits from a cool microclimate that defies the intense heat of the Douro Valley. This high-altitude terroir is crucial for the Quinta de Cidro Sauvignon Blanc, allowing the grapes to retain their natural acidity and intense aromatic profile. The winemaking team utilizes gentle pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel to preserve the pristine, vibrant character of the fruit, resulting in a wine that beautifully marries cool-climate freshness with the mineral depth of Douro soils.

Real Companhia Velha blev grundlagt i 1756 ved kongeligt dekret af kong José I under ledelse af Marquês de Pombal og er Portugals ældste og mest historiske vinhus. Med sine legendariske modningskældre i Vila Nova de Gaia og vidtstrakte vinmarker i Dourodalen spillede huset en afgørende rolle i etableringen af verdens første officielt afgrænsede vinregion.
