✨ Technical Specifications

Hailing from the legendary Scharzhofberg vineyard in the cool Saar valley, this Grosses Gewächs (GG) represents the pinnacle of dry Riesling from Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt. The Scharzhofberg hill, with its deep, weathered grey Devonian slate soils and steep south-facing exposure, has been revered since the Middle Ages when it was cultivated by the Benedictine Abbey of St. Mary ad Martyres. The cool winds of the Saar river valley preserve a vibrant, electric acidity in the grapes, which is balanced by a profound, stony minerality. Vinified dry using traditional methods, including fermentation with native yeasts and maturation on the fine lees, this 100% Riesling showcases a crystalline purity, offering complex aromas of white peach, wild herbs, crushed slate, and salty citrus.

🍾 About the Producer

With a documented winemaking legacy dating back to 1349, Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt is one of the most historic and revered wine estates in Germany's Mosel region. Headquartered at Schloss Marienlay in the Ruwer valley and owned by the Reh family since 1978, the estate holds an extraordinary footprint spanning the three distinct river valleys of the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer. Dedicated almost exclusively to steep-slope Riesling cultivation, the winery stewards world-renowned VDP.Grosse Lage vineyard sites such as the Saar's Scharzhofberger, the Ruwer's Kaseler Nies'chen, and their historic Mosel monopole, Josephshöfer. Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt is celebrated for crafting site-expressive, mineral-driven Rieslings that range from vibrant dry expressions to profound, age-worthy noble sweet Prädikat wines.
