Hailing from the world-renowned Scharzhofberg vineyard in the Saar valley, this wine represents a masterclass in the tension between electric acidity and delicate sweetness. The Scharzhofberg hill, facing south-to-southwest, is characterized by its deep, weathered Devonian slate soils rich in iron, which impart a distinct, smoky minerality to the grapes. Because the Saar is cooler than the Middle Mosel, the grapes undergo a long, slow ripening period, preserving their vibrant acidity. Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt's 'feinherb' (off-dry) bottling of this Kabinett-level Riesling is fermented in stainless steel to preserve its crystalline purity. Established in 1349, Weingut Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt is one of the Mosel's most venerable estates, boasting a viticultural lineage that spans nearly seven centuries. Acquired by the Reh family in 1978 and revitalized under the stewardship of Annegret Reh-Gartner, the estate is headquartered at Schloss Marienlay in the Ruwer valley. The winery holds an extraordinary portfolio of steep-slope terroirs extending across the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer valleys, united by varied Devonian blue, red, and grey slate soils and cool, river-moderated microclimates.
