✨ Technical Specifications
Crafted by the historic house of Rémy Martin, founded in 1724, the Fine Champagne Extra is a masterclass in the art of Cognac. Under the symbol of the Centaur—introduced in 1870 to represent the union of man, nature, and the stars—this expression celebrates the prestigious Fine Champagne appellation. This legally protected designation requires a blend of eaux-de-vie exclusively from the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus, with at least 50% originating from the chalky, sun-drenched soils of Grande Champagne. Primarily distilled from Ugni Blanc grapes, the liquid undergoes traditional double distillation on the lees in small copper stills before embarking on a decades-long maturation in toasted Limousin oak casks. The Extra designation signifies a blend of exceptional age and complexity, resulting in a spirit of deep amber hue, offering a symphony of dried fruits, warm spices, leather, and the elusive, highly prized rancio character.
🍾 About the Producer
Established in 1724 by winegrower Rémy Martin, Maison Rémy Martin stands as an essential pillar of Cognac viticulture and distillation history. Based in the town of Cognac within the Charente department, the house is renowned for crafting Fine Champagne Cognac, sourcing exclusively from the chalk-dominant, porous Cretaceous limestone soils of Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne. These dual premier crus yield exceptional acidity and aromatics, ideally suited for prolonged maturation. Distillation occurs traditionally on the fine lees in small copper Charentais pot stills, producing eaux-de-vie of notable depth, opulence, and structural longevity. Maturation takes place in fine-grained French Limousin oak casks, overseen today by Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau. The estate and its partner cooperative, Alliance Fine Champagne, adhere to rigorous Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE Level 3) sustainable certifications. Celebrated benchmarks include the venerable Louis XIII, Rémy Martin XO, and 1738 Accord Royal, embodying layered notes of dried fruit, candied citrus, jasmine, and refined rancio.
