✨ Technical Specifications
Robert Mondavi founded his namesake winery in 1966 with a bold vision to create Napa Valley wines that could stand alongside the finest estates of Europe. The Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is the crown jewel of this legacy, deeply rooted in the historic To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville. First planted in 1868 by pioneer H.W. Crabb, To Kalon—meaning 'the highest beauty' in Greek—is renowned for its well-drained gravelly soils and ideal microclimate, which yield grapes of exceptional concentration and complexity. This wine is typically a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend, often enhanced with small percentages of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Crafted using traditional gravity-flow methods and aged for nearly two years in French oak barrels, it exemplifies the classic Oakville style: a harmonious balance of rich dark fruit, structural elegance, and refined, velvety tannins.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1966 by visionary vintner Robert Mondavi, Robert Mondavi Winery was established in Oakville with the singular mission of creating Napa Valley wines that could rival the finest estates in the world. Operating from its iconic California Mission-style winery designed by Cliff May, the estate played a pivotal role in pioneering the modern American wine industry, particularly through its stewardship of the historic To Kalon Vineyard. Mondavi championed cutting-edge viticultural techniques, temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation, French oak barrel aging, and popularized dry-fermented Sauvignon Blanc under the moniker Fumé Blanc. Today, the winery remains globally celebrated for its benchmark Reserve and Oakville Cabernet Sauvignons, as well as its structured, elegant Chardonnays and expressive Bordeaux-style blends.
