Ruffino's Lodola Nuova is a distinguished expression of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a historic Tuscan appellation famously lauded by the 17th-century poet Francesco Redi as the king of all wines. The estate itself derives its poetic name from the larks, or lodole, that traditionally migrate across these scenic hillsides. Grown in the clay and sand soils of Montepulciano, this red wine is crafted primarily from Prugnolo Gentile (the local biotype of Sangiovese), which yields a deeper, more robust character than its Chianti neighbors. Aged carefully in oak casks, Lodola Nuova develops a refined structure, seamlessly weaving together vibrant dark cherry fruit, earthy undertones, and subtle hints of leather and spice that reflect the ancient winemaking heritage of the region.

Founded in 1877 by cousins Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino in Pontassieve near Florence, Ruffino has grown to become one of the most iconic ambassadors of Tuscan winemaking. The estate gained early prestige as an official supplier to the Italian royal court, immortalized in its flagship Riserva Ducale, first crafted in 1927 in honor of the Duke of Aosta. Today, Ruffino manages prime estate vineyards across Tuscany's premier denominations, including Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, and Bolgheri, blending classic regional traditions with forward-thinking viticultural techniques.
