The Weibelsberg Grand Cru, situated in the historic commune of Andlau, is renowned for its unique pink Vosges sandstone soils, which stand in fascinating contrast to Schieferkopf's signature blue slate terroirs. This south-facing amphitheater vineyard is highly protected from cold winds, allowing Riesling grapes to ripen slowly and completely. Under Michel Chapoutier's guidance, Schieferkopf crafts this wine to highlight the site's distinct personality. The grapes are gently pressed and fermented using indigenous yeasts, followed by aging on fine lees. The resulting Riesling is a masterclass in tension, balancing a rich, ripe stone-fruit core with a crystalline, saline minerality and a remarkably long, dry finish that reflects centuries of Alsatian viticultural heritage.

Established in 2009 by the renowned Rhône winemaker Michel Chapoutier, Schieferkopf is dedicated to showcasing the rare blue slate terroirs of Alsace, specifically around the historic commune of Reichsfeld. Embracing organic and biodynamic viticulture, the estate focuses on expressing the intense minerality and complexity that this unique geological vein imparts to the vines. Schieferkopf is highly regarded for its precise, dry white wines, including exceptional Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Sylvaner, which offer a striking saline tension and vibrant acidity. Through meticulous craftsmanship, the winery beautifully bridges Alsatian tradition with a modern, terroir-driven philosophy.
