The Cornelius range represents the pinnacle of Scotchmans Hill's winemaking, named in honor of Cornelius Sullivan, an early pioneer of the Bellarine Peninsula. The Strathallan Syrah is sourced from select cool-climate vineyard blocks characterized by black volcanic soils over limestone, heavily influenced by the moderating maritime breezes of Port Phillip Bay. Crafted using traditional techniques including open-top fermenters, partial whole-bunch inclusion, and maturation in premium French oak, this wine is a sophisticated, cool-climate expression of the variety. It eschews the heavy, jammy style of warmer Australian regions in favor of a savory, Northern Rhône-inspired profile defined by cracked black pepper, dark berries, violets, and elegant, fine-grained tannins.
