The Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, or 'sundial' of Zeltingen, is one of the Mosel's most revered grand cru vineyards, named after the historic sundial erected in the vines in 1620 to guide the daily labor of vineyard workers. Selbach-Oster's Spätlese trocken from this legendary site showcases the dramatic tension of Mosel Riesling. Grown on precipitously steep slopes of weathered blue Devonian slate, the grapes are harvested late in the season to achieve optimal ripeness, then fermented dry. Crafted using traditional methods, including fermentation with indigenous yeasts in classic, large oak Fuder casks, this wine marries the generous, stone-fruit richness of late-harvest fruit with a laser-like, bone-dry precision and intense, smoky minerality.
