Spier's Colours Merlot is an approachable red wine sourced from vineyards across the Western Cape of South Africa. The region's Mediterranean climate and varied soils, including decomposed granite and shale, contribute to the grape's development. Typically produced as a varietal Merlot, the winemaking process emphasizes fresh fruit preservation. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, often followed by short-term aging with oak components to add roundness and subtle spice while maintaining a soft, medium-bodied profile.

Established in 1692 along the banks of the Eerste River in Stellenbosch, Spier is one of South Africa's oldest wine farms. Acquired in 1993 by the Enthoven family, the estate has transformed into a benchmark of ecological stewardship, operating under certified organic viticulture and holistic regenerative farming.
