β¨ Technical Specifications
The Frans K Smit Red Blend is the flagship red wine from Spier, named after their long-standing cellar master. Produced in the Coastal Region of South Africa, primarily sourcing fruit from Stellenbosch, this wine is typically a Bordeaux-style blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, often complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grapes are sourced from selected vineyard blocks with decomposed granite and clay soils. Fermentation typically occurs in stainless steel or open-top oak fermenters, followed by extensive maturation for approximately 24 months in French oak barrels, a high percentage of which are new. The resulting wine is structured, concentrated, and designed for long-term aging.
