Hailing from the wind-swept, rugged shores of the Isle of Skye, this expression represents a masterclass in wood finishing. The Talisker Distillers Edition undergoes a unique double-maturation process, taking the distillery's signature volcanic, peat-smoked, and sea-salted single malt and finishing it in ex-Amoroso sherry casks. Amoroso, a rich and sweetened style of Oloroso sherry, imparts a luxurious layer of dark fruits, cacao, and rounded sweetness that beautifully juxtaposes Talisker's fierce maritime character. According to local lore, the wild storms of Skye infuse the maturing spirit with the very essence of the Atlantic, a coastal peatiness that is wonderfully tamed and complexed here by the Spanish oak, resulting in a dramatic harmony of peat smoke, sweet raisins, and a trademark cracked black pepper finish.

Talisker troner på de rå kyster ved Loch Harport på Minginish-halvøen på Isle of Skye og er øens ældste aktive single malt-destilleri. Destilleriet blev grundlagt i 1830 af brødrene Hugh og Kenneth MacAskill og har gennemlevet både brande, isolation og skiftende tider i whiskybranchen, alt imens det har fastholdt sin kompromisløse, maritime identitet. Mikroklimaet er udpræget hebridisk, formet af nådesløse kystvinde, saltholdig havluft og blødt, tørveholdigt kildevand fra Cnoc nan Speireag. Selve destillationsapparatet er helt unikt opbygget: Fem pot stills i kobber med karakteristiske U-formede svanehalse og udendørs worm tubs i træ sikrer rigelig kobberkontakt og udskillelse af svovlforbindelser, samtidig med at det giver en fyldig, muskuløs krop. Kombinationen af mellemrøget bygmalt og denne særlige kedelgeometri skaber Taliskers umiskendelige signatur med noter af saltet havgus, knust sort peber, tørret frugt og en varmende røgtone. Denne stil fuldendes i destilleriets klassiske 10-årige aftapning, de ærværdige 25- og 30-års udgaver samt i deres eksperimenterende maritime fadlagringer.
