β¨ Technical Specifications
Crafted by the historic Tedeschi family, whose winemaking legacy in the Veneto region dates back to 1630, the 'Capitel San Rocco' Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore is a masterful expression of local tradition. The name pays homage to the 'capitelli'βhistoric wayside shrines dedicated to Saint Roch (San Rocco) that dot the Valpolicella hillsides to bless and protect the vineyards. This wine is produced using the time-honored Ripasso technique, where a young, fresh Valpolicella wine is refermented on the warm, sugar-rich grape skins left over from the production of Amarone. This secondary fermentation infuses the classic blend of Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella with remarkable depth, velvety tannins, and complex aromas of dark cherry, wild berries, and sweet spices, beautifully reflecting the clay and limestone soils of the region.
πΎ About the Producer
With viticultural roots dating back nearly four centuries to 1630, the Tedeschi family is one of the most storied and respected names in Veneto's Valpolicella region. Based in Pedemonte, the estate gained international acclaim under Renzo Tedeschi and is today guided by his children Antonietta, Sabrina, and Riccardo, who uphold an uncompromising commitment to terroir expression and local heritage. Tedeschi was a pioneer of single-vineyard selection in the region with the landmark 1964 bottling of Capitel Monte Olmi, helping to redefine the standard for site-specific Valpolicella. Employing careful appassimento drying methods and rigorous vineyard management across estates like Maternigo and Fabriseria, the producer is world-renowned for its powerful, elegant Amarone della Valpolicella, expressive Valpolicella Superiore, and refined regional spirits.
