The 2021 Guidalberto is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot from the Bolgheri region in Tuscany. The vineyards feature diverse soils composed of clay, sand, limestone, and stony gravel. The 2021 vintage was marked by a dry, warm summer with significant diurnal temperature variations, allowing the grapes to achieve optimal phenolic ripeness while retaining fresh acidity. The wine underwent fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and was aged for 15 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, followed by an additional three months of bottle aging before release.
🍾 wine.about_producer
Situated in the coastal Bolgheri region of Tuscany, Italy, Tenuta San Guido was established by Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who revolutionized the Italian wine landscape in the 1940s by planting French grape varieties on the estate's gravelly soils. Driven by a desire to create a noble, Bordeaux-style red wine, the estate pioneered the "Super Tuscan" movement, utilizing French oak barriques for aging to craft wines of exceptional structure and longevity. The estate is internationally legendary for its flagship wine, Sassicaia—a masterful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc that earned its own unique single-estate appellation, Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC. Alongside this icon, Tenuta San Guido produces Guidalberto, an elegant blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, maintaining an unwavering commitment to elegance, complexity, and terroir-driven expression.
