โจ Technical Specifications
The 2018 Sassicaia is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, sourced from estate vineyards in the Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC. The terroir is characterized by stony, limestone-rich soils with clay and gravel, situated at elevations ranging from 100 to 300 meters above sea level. The 2018 growing season was cooler and wetter in the spring, followed by a warm, dry summer with significant diurnal temperature variations in late summer, yielding an elegant and balanced wine. The wine was aged for 24 months in French oak barriques (approximately one-third new) and refined in the bottle prior to release.
๐พ About the Producer
Tenuta San Guido is a legendary wine estate situated along the Etruscan Coast in the Bolgheri sub-region of Tuscany, Italy. The estate's modern viticultural legacy began in the 1940s when Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta planted Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc on the gravelly soils of Castiglioncello, pioneering a Bordeaux-inspired revolution in Italian winemaking. Officially debuting commercially with the 1968 vintage, the estate created Sassicaia, the seminal 'Super Tuscan' that would eventually earn its own dedicated appellation, Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC. Managed with an enduring commitment to aristocratic elegance, restraint, and longevity, Tenuta San Guido crafts wines of extraordinary balance and finesse, highlighted by its world-renowned flagship Sassicaia and the acclaimed cuvรฉe Guidalberto.
