Sourced from the historic Hunter Valley Distillery (HVD) vineyard, which was originally planted in 1908, Tyrrell's HVD Semillon is a profound expression of old-vine viticulture. Situated between two sandy creek beds, the dry-grown vines benefit from unique alluvial soils that yield a softer, more texturally generous style of Semillon in its youth compared to other single-vineyard releases. True to the classic Hunter Valley method, the grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed, and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks without any oak contact. This minimalist winemaking preserves the pristine, vibrant citrus and floral characters of the ancient vines, allowing the unique terroir of this historic site to shine through.

Tyrrell's blev grundlagt i 1858 af Edward Tyrrell og er et af Australiens ældste og mest prestigefyldte familiedrevne vinhuse, smukt beliggende for foden af Brokenback Range i Hunter Valley i New South Wales. Vinhuset har været i familiens hænder i fem generationer og har spillet en skelsættende rolle i udviklingen af moderne australsk vinavl. Det var blandt andet her, landets første kommercielle Chardonnay så dagens lys med den legendariske Vat 47 i 1971. Vingården er fortsat dedikeret til traditionelle vinifikationsmetoder med minimal intervention samt bevarelsen af historiske, rodægte vinstokke, der giver vine med en enestående regional karakter. Tyrrell's er internationalt anerkendt for sin ikoniske Vat 1 Semillon, der er berømt for sit fantastiske lagringspotentiale, såvel som for sine elegante, karakterfulde Hunter Valley Shiraz-vine og mousserende vine.
