Johnno's Shiraz is sourced from one of the Hunter Valley's most historic vineyard blocks, planted in 1908 by John 'Johnno' Tyrrell on the flat, sandy alluvial soils of the estate. Unlike the heavier clay soils that produce more robust reds, this unique terroir yields a remarkably elegant, medium-bodied, and highly aromatic expression of Shiraz. The wine is crafted using traditional methods, including fermentation in open-top vats and aging in large, older French oak casks to ensure the delicate red fruit, savory spice, and earthy undertones are not overwhelmed by wood. It stands as a testament to the longevity and grace of dry-grown, centenarian vines in the Hunter Valley.

Established in 1858 by English immigrant Edward Tyrrell, Tyrrell's is one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious family-owned wineries, located in the historic Pokolbin sub-region of the Hunter Valley, New South Wales. Today, under the guidance of fourth-generation family member Bruce Tyrrell, the estate continues to champion its rich heritage while managing some of the region's oldest dry-grown vineyards. Tyrrell's is globally celebrated for its benchmark Hunter Valley Semillon, particularly the iconic Vat 1 Semillon, which showcases extraordinary longevity and complexity without oak contact.
