The 'Lost Block' range owes its name to a serendipitous mishap during the frantic 1993 harvest, when a parcel of Semillon was temporarily forgotten in the vineyard. By the time the 'lost' block was rediscovered and picked, the grapes had reached a level of ripeness far beyond the traditional early-harvest style of Hunter Valley Semillon. Rather than the austere, tightly wound profile of classic Hunter Semillon, this late-picked fruit yielded a wine that was immediately soft, vibrant, and bursting with tropical fruit flavors. Today, Tyrrell's continues this style intentionally, crafting a Semillon that celebrates a more approachable, generous side of the Hunter Valley. Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks without oak contact, it preserves the pristine, zesty fruit character that defines this modern classic.

Established in 1858 by English immigrant Edward Tyrrell, Tyrrell's is one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious family-owned wineries, located in the historic Pokolbin sub-region of the Hunter Valley, New South Wales. Today, under the guidance of fourth-generation family member Bruce Tyrrell, the estate continues to champion its rich heritage while managing some of the region's oldest dry-grown vineyards. Tyrrell's is globally celebrated for its benchmark Hunter Valley Semillon, particularly the iconic Vat 1 Semillon, which showcases extraordinary longevity and complexity without oak contact. The winery is also a pioneer of Australian Chardonnay, exemplified by the historic Vat 47, alongside exceptional, elegant Shiraz expressions such as Vat 9, cementing its status as an icon of Australian viticulture.
