Bodegas Vega Sicilia stands as Spain's undisputed viticultural grand cru, established in 1864 by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves and owned by the Álvarez family since 1982. Anchored along the banks of the Duero River in Valbuena de Duero, the estate spans roughly 1,000 hectares, with 210 hectares of vineyard plots situated at elevations of 700 to 800 meters. The terroir is defined by a complex mosaic of chalky limestone, alluvial gravel, and clay soils exposed to extreme diurnal temperature swings. Guided by viticultural director Enrique Macías and technical director Gonzalo Iturriaga de Juan, farming is conducted organically and sustainably, with strict dry farming and plot-by-plot harvesting.
