Vega Sicilia Unico is the undisputed crown jewel of Spanish viticulture, a legendary red wine that transcends fashion and time. Born in the rugged, high-altitude terroir of Ribera del Duero along the Duero River, Unico is crafted primarily from old-vine Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) complemented by a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. What truly sets Unico apart is its mythical, painstaking aging regime. The wine undergoes an epic journey of at least ten years before it is deemed ready for release, resting sequentially in large oak vats, new and used French and American oak barrels, and finally finishing its maturation in the bottle. This unparalleled patience yields a wine of extraordinary complexity, boasting notes of dried dark fruits, leather, tobacco, exotic spices, and a seamless, silky structure. Vega Sicilia blev grundlagt i 1864 af Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves i Valbuena de Duero i den spanske region Ribera del Duero og regnes i dag blandt verdens absolut mest legendariske og ærefrygtindgydende vinhuse. Siden Álvarez-familien overtog ejendommen i 1982, har vineriet kompromisløst videreført sin tradition for minutiøs vinavl og nobelt håndværk, hvor den lokale Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) forenes harmonisk med klassiske Bordeaux-druer.
