Unlike the legendary Único, which waits a decade or more, Valbuena is released after a precise five-year aging cycle—hence the '5.°' in its name. This wine is a masterful expression of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), traditionally complemented by a small percentage of Merlot, sourced from vines grown on gentle slopes of clay, limestone, and alluvial sediment along the Duero River. The aging process is a meticulous dance, transitioning the wine through new and used French and American oak barrels before finishing in large wooden vats and bottle. Founded in 1864 by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves in Valbuena de Duero within Spain's Ribera del Duero region, Vega Sicilia stands as one of the most legendary and revered wine estates in the world.
