✨ Technical Specifications
Hailing from the limestone-rich slopes of the Maconnais, Verget's Pouilly-Fuisse 'Les Combes' Vieilles Vignes is a masterclass in old-vine Chardonnay. The 'Les Combes' climat is nestled near the historic Rock of Solutre, a dramatic limestone escarpment steeped in prehistoric lore and winemaking heritage. Jean-Marie Guffens utilizes fruit from vines averaging over 50 years old, which dig deep into the clay-limestone soils to yield concentrated, mineral-driven berries. In the cellar, Verget employs a gentle horizontal pressing and ferments the juice in oak barrels, utilizing minimal lees stirring to preserve the natural tension, vibrant acidity, and pure orchard fruit character of the terroir. The result is a white Burgundy of remarkable energy, balancing rich texture with a piercing, stony finish.
🍾 About the Producer
Maison Verget was established in 1990 by visionary Belgian winemaker Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine Heynen in Sologny, located in the Mâconnais region of southern Burgundy. Renowned as a trailblazing négociant-éleveur, the house revolutionized Burgundy winemaking by implementing uncompromising standards of fruit selection, gentle horizontal pressing, and precise maturation on fine lees with minimal oak intervention. While celebrated globally for its pure, mineral-laden Chardonnay sourced across prime terroirs from the Mâconnais to Chablis and the Côte d'Or, Verget also applies its meticulous craft to expressive Pinot Noir and pioneering southern expressions. The resulting wines are acclaimed for their tension, crystalline purity, and authentic expression of site.
