Hailing from the rolling clay-limestone hills of the Mâconnais in southern Burgundy, 'Les Châtaigniers' takes its name from the historic chestnut trees that once bordered these sun-drenched vineyards. Crafted by the innovative Maison Verget under the guidance of Jean-Marie Guffens, this cuvée is a pure expression of 100% Chardonnay. To preserve the vibrant energy and pristine fruit of the terroir, the wine is typically fermented and aged in temperature-controlled stainless steel or concrete vats, avoiding heavy oak influence. The result is a classic white Burgundy characterized by bright citrus, green apple, and white flower aromas, underpinned by a signature chalky minerality and a refreshing, tense finish.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Founded in 1990 by the visionary winemaker Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine, Maison Verget is a highly acclaimed negociant-eleveur based in Sologny within the Maconnais region of Burgundy, France. Renowned for revolutionizing white Burgundy production, the house focuses on highlighting the distinct micro-terroirs of the region, from Macon and Chablis to the Cote d'Or, alongside select ventures in the Vaucluse. By employing precise pressing techniques, custom oak and concrete aging regimens, and minimal intervention, Verget crafts expressive, mineral-driven Chardonnay and elegant Pinot Noir. Their signature expressions, such as the Grand Elevage and various single-vineyard bottlings, are celebrated globally for their tension, purity, and exceptional value.
