Crafted by the iconoclastic Jean-Marie Guffens, Verget's 'Lieu (Inter)dit' is a brilliant play on words and a testament to the producer's rebellious spirit. In French wine law, a 'lieu-dit' is a historically recognized, named vineyard site. By adding the parenthesis to create 'Lieu (Inter)dit'—or 'Forbidden Place'—Guffens cheekily thumbed his nose at the rigid constraints of the appellation system. This pure Chardonnay is sourced from exceptional parcels that Guffens chose to declassify, freeing himself from bureaucratic rules to focus entirely on quality. Vinified with Verget's trademark precision, the wine undergoes gentle pressing and is aged primarily in stainless steel or concrete vats to preserve its intense mineral core, vibrant citrus notes, and crisp acidity, offering a masterclass in pure, unadulterated Burgundian Chardonnay.

Maison Verget was established in 1990 by visionary Belgian winemaker Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine Heynen in Sologny, located in the Mâconnais region of southern Burgundy. Renowned as a trailblazing négociant-éleveur, the house revolutionized Burgundy winemaking by implementing uncompromising standards of fruit selection, gentle horizontal pressing, and precise maturation on fine lees with minimal oak intervention.
