✨ wine.spec_sheet

Hailing from the steep, wind-swept slopes of the iconic Rock of Vergisson in the Mâconnais region of Burgundy, 'Sur la Roche' (literally 'on the rock') is a masterclass in mineral-driven Chardonnay. The vineyard is situated at a high elevation where the soil is remarkably thin, consisting of hard limestone and fossilized shells. This extreme terroir forces the vines to dig deep, resulting in a white Burgundy of immense tension, saline minerality, and chiseled citrus fruit. Maison Verget, under the guiding philosophy of Jean-Marie Guffens, vinifies this fruit with absolute precision, utilizing gentle pressing and careful aging in a combination of concrete eggs, foudres, or older oak barrels to preserve the pristine, crystalline purity of the site without masking it in heavy wood. The Rock of Vergisson itself carries prehistoric significance, having served as a hunting site and landmark for millennia, lending an ancient, mystical heritage to this exceptional cuvée.
