Maison Verget's 'Terroir' philosophy represents the visionary vision of Jean-Marie Guffens, who set out to prove that the limestone-rich soils of the Mâconnais and broader Burgundy could produce white wines of tension and pedigree rivaling the Côte d'Or. Crafted from 100% Chardonnay, these wines are a masterclass in purity. Guffens famously rejects heavy oak and excessive lees stirring, opting instead for precise pressing and aging in horizontal tanks or neutral barrels to let the natural minerality and vibrant citrus fruit shine. The result is an energetic, terroir-driven expression of Burgundy that captures the geological diversity of the region with remarkable clarity and energy.

Founded in 1990 by the visionary winemaker Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine, Maison Verget is a highly acclaimed negociant-eleveur based in Sologny within the Maconnais region of Burgundy, France. Renowned for revolutionizing white Burgundy production, the house focuses on highlighting the distinct micro-terroirs of the region, from Macon and Chablis to the Cote d'Or, alongside select ventures in the Vaucluse. By employing precise pressing techniques, custom oak and concrete aging regimens, and minimal intervention, Verget crafts expressive, mineral-driven Chardonnay and elegant Pinot Noir. Their signature expressions, such as the Grand Elevage and various single-vineyard bottlings, are celebrated globally for their tension, purity, and exceptional value.
