✨ Technical Specifications
Maison Verget's Premier Cru 'Vieilles Vignes' expressions represent the pinnacle of Jean-Marie Guffens' revolutionary approach to white Burgundy. Sourced from ancient, low-yielding Chardonnay vines across prestigious Premier Cru climats, these wines showcase the profound depth that only deep-rooted, mature vines can extract from Burgundy's complex limestone soils. Verget employs a meticulous winemaking philosophy: gentle whole-cluster pressing, fermentation using indigenous yeasts, and aging on fine lees in a combination of concrete vats and carefully selected oak barrels. This precise regimen avoids heavy oak influence, allowing the natural tension, vibrant citrus, stone fruit, and intense mineral drive of the old vines to take center stage, resulting in a texturally rich yet remarkably energetic white Burgundy.
🍾 About the Producer
Maison Verget was established in 1990 by visionary Belgian winemaker Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine Heynen in Sologny, located in the Mâconnais region of southern Burgundy. Renowned as a trailblazing négociant-éleveur, the house revolutionized Burgundy winemaking by implementing uncompromising standards of fruit selection, gentle horizontal pressing, and precise maturation on fine lees with minimal oak intervention. While celebrated globally for its pure, mineral-laden Chardonnay sourced across prime terroirs from the Mâconnais to Chablis and the Côte d'Or, Verget also applies its meticulous craft to expressive Pinot Noir and pioneering southern expressions. The resulting wines are acclaimed for their tension, crystalline purity, and authentic expression of site.
