La Grande Dame is the prestige cuvée of Veuve Clicquot, crafted to honor the 'Grande Dame of Champagne,' Madame Clicquot, who took the reins of the house in 1805 and revolutionized the region with inventions like the riddling table. This special edition features a vibrant collaboration with legendary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, whose iconic polka dots and floral motifs beautifully mirror the joyful, rising bubbles of this exceptional wine. True to Madame Clicquot's preference for structure and strength, the blend is highly dominated by Pinot Noir (typically around 90%), sourced from the house's historic Grand Cru parcels in villages like Ambonnay, Bouzy, and Verzy, complemented by a touch of Chardonnay from Avize and Mesnil-sur-Oger. The wine undergoes extensive aging in the historic chalk crayères of Reims, resulting in a masterpiece of precision, tension, and complexity, offering notes of fresh stone fruit, toasted brioche, and a profound mineral core.

Maison Veuve Clicquot blev grundlagt i 1772 af Philippe Clicquot, men opnåede for alvor sin legendariske status under Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, som blev enke i 1805. Madame Clicquot stod bag en række skelsættende nyskabelser; hun skabte den første dokumenterede årgangschampagne i 1810, opfandt pulten til reolling (pupitre) i 1816 og udviklede i 1818 metoden til fremstilling af moderne blended rosé-champagne. Huset, der i dag er en del af LVMH, råder over cirka 390 hektar egne vinmarker, hvor Grand og Premier Cru-parceller dominerer i Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs og Vallée de la Marne – samtlige certificeret under Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE 3) og Viticulture Durable en Champagne (VDC). Under kældermester Didier Mariotti er vinhusets stil fortsat forankret i Pinot Noir, som tilfører struktur, fylde og vinøs intensitet. En mesterlig beherskelse af reservevine og langvarig lagring i de UNESCO-fredede, gallo-romerske kalkkældre (crayères) under Reims kendetegner husets ikoniske cuvéer, herunder Yellow Label Brut, Extra Brut Extra Old og den prestigefyldte årgangscuvée, La Grande Dame.
