Veuve Clicquot's signature Brut Yellow Label, historically bearing the name of the house's matriarch as Ponsardin Brut, is the definitive ambassador of the house's style and heritage. Named in honor of Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin—the legendary 'Grande Dame of Champagne' who took the reins of the house in 1805 as a young widow—this cuvée embodies her demanding standard: 'only one quality, the finest.' The wine is celebrated for its striking yellow label, a design trademarked in 1877 to distinguish the dry ('brut') style from sweeter offerings of the era. Crafted with a dominant proportion of Pinot Noir, which provides the structure and strength characteristic of the house, it is balanced by the elegance of Chardonnay and the roundness of Meunier. To maintain absolute consistency year after year, the master blender incorporates a high proportion of priceless reserve wines (often 30% to 45%) spanning several older vintages. The wine is aged on its lees in the historic chalk crayères of Reims for a minimum of three years, resulting in a complex, toasty, and beautifully structured Champagne.
