The house's history is forever intertwined with Madame Clicquot, the 'Grande Dame of Champagne,' who took the reins in 1805 as a young widow and revolutionized the region by inventing the riddling table to clarify sparkling wine. This signature cuvée is defined by its Pinot Noir dominance (typically 50-55%), which imparts structure and strength, beautifully balanced by Chardonnay for elegance and Meunier for fruitiness. Sourced from up to 60 different crus, the blend incorporates a high proportion of priceless reserve wines (often 30-45%) to ensure consistent quality and the house's signature complex, toasty style, aged for at least three years on its lees.

Established in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot, Maison Veuve Clicquot attained legendary status under the stewardship of Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, who was widowed in 1805. Madame Clicquot pioneered landmark innovations, creating the first recorded vintage Champagne in 1810, developing the riddling table (pupitre) in 1816, and formulating the modern blended rosé Champagne method in 1818. Today owned by LVMH, the house oversees roughly 390 hectares of estate vineyards—dominated by Grand and Premier Cru parcels across the Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, and Vallée de la Marne—all certified under Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE 3) and Viticulture Durable en Champagne (VDC). Under Cellar Master Didier Mariotti, the winemaking philosophy remains anchored in Pinot Noir, imparting structure, breadth, and vinous intensity.
