Nestled at the southern gateway of the Alsace wine route, the Cave du Vieil-Armand crafts this Pinot Noir as a tribute to the region's complex history and unique terroir. Named 'Médaille' in recognition of its classic representation of the varietal, this red wine is grown on the sunny, steep slopes near the historic Hartmannswillerkopf battlefield (known locally as Vieil-Armand). The soils here, a mix of granite, sand, and silt, impart a distinct minerality and elegance to the Pinot Noir. Vinified traditionally with temperature-controlled fermentation to preserve its bright red fruit character, this wine showcases the lighter, more delicate, and aromatic side of Alsatian red winemaking, balanced by soft tannins and a refreshing acidity.

Cave du Vieil-Armand blev grundlagt i 1958 for foden af den historiske Hartmannswillerkopf-høj – kendt på fransk som Vieil Armand – og er et anerkendt kooperativ beliggende i den sydalsassiske landsby Wuenheim. Huset trækker på en enestående mosaik af terroirs, herunder de historiske vinmarker ved Château d'Ollwiller, og samler passionerede lokale vinbønder med en fælles dedikation til autentisk regionalt håndværk og bæredygtig vindyrkning. Vingården er kendt for en alsidig portefølje, der spænder fra klassiske, stille Alsace AOC-enkeltdruevine på eksempelvis Sylvaner og Pinot Gris til elegante Crémants d'Alsace fremstillet efter den traditionelle metode samt frugtbrændevine og likører af høj håndværksmæssig kvalitet – alle præget af en ekspressiv, aromatisk renhed og en flot, spændstig syrebalance.
