Villa Maria's Seaspray Sauvignon Blanc is a captivating expression of Marlborough's coastal terroir, sourced from a single vineyard in the rugged Awatere Valley. Situated close to the turbulent Pacific Ocean, the vines are constantly buffeted by cool sea breezes, which deposit microscopic salt particles onto the grape skins—a phenomenon that imparts a distinctive, mouth-watering saline minerality to the finished wine. Founded in 1961 by Sir George Fistonich with just an acre of vines, Villa Maria has grown into a pioneering force in New Zealand winemaking. The Seaspray bottling showcases the cooler, more dramatic side of the region, defined by intense jalapeño, fresh-cut grass, and bright lime citrus notes, backed by a flinty, sea-salt finish that reflects its maritime heritage. Established in 1961 by Sir George Fistonich, Villa Maria evolved from a modest five-acre leased plot in Māngere, Auckland, into one of New Zealand's foremost vinous institutions. Acquired by Indevin Group in 2021, the estate continues its legacy of regional and stylistic breadth, sourcing exceptional fruit from premier microclimates across Marlborough, Hawke's Bay, Gisborne, and Auckland. Viticultural operations emphasize environmental stewardship as a founding member of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, complemented by dedicated organic vineyard blocks.
