Crafted from the legendary Geisenheimer Rothenberg vineyard, this Eiswein represents a high-stakes gamble with nature. The vineyard's name, meaning 'red hill,' derives from its striking iron-rich red slate and quartzite soils, which impart a distinctive, smoky mineral tension to the Riesling grapes. To produce this rare nectar, the grapes are left on the vine deep into the winter, risking loss to frost, rot, or hungry birds. Only when temperatures plummet to at least -7°C are the frozen berries painstakingly harvested by hand in the freezing pre-dawn hours. Pressed immediately while still frozen, the ice crystals remain in the press, releasing only a precious, highly concentrated drop of sweet juice. This traditional, extreme method results in a wine of breathtaking purity, where luscious sweetness is perfectly balanced by the Rheingau's signature electric acidity.

With family viticultural heritage in Rüdesheim tracing back to 1744, Weingut Leitz began a dynamic modern era when Johannes Leitz took helm of the family estate in 1985.
