✨ wine.spec_sheet

Crafted from one of the Rheingau's most dramatic grand cru vineyards, the Rüdesheimer Berg Rottland Riesling Auslese is a testament to extreme viticulture. The name 'Rottland' dates back to the Middle Ages, derived from the German word 'roden,' referring to the arduous clearing of wild forest land to plant vines on these precipitous slopes. Situated where the Rhine River makes a sharp bend, the vineyard acts as a giant solar reflector, bathing the steep, south-facing slate and quartzite terraces in intense sunlight. This unique microclimate, combined with autumn mists from the river, fosters the development of noble rot (botrytis). Weingut Leitz meticulously hand-harvests these shriveled, sugar-concentrated berries to produce an Auslese of breathtaking complexity. The wine seamlessly marries luscious, honeyed sweetness with a piercing, electric acidity and a profound, smoky mineral backbone characteristic of the Rüdesheimer Berg's ancient soils.

Weingut Leitz, located in the historic town of Rüdesheim am Rhein in Germany's Rheingau region, traces its winemaking heritage back to 1744. Under the visionary leadership of Johannes Leitz, who took over the family estate in 1985, the winery has earned international acclaim for its exceptional, terroir-driven Rieslings. The estate meticulously manages some of the Rheingau's most prestigious steep-slope grand cru vineyards, including Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg, Berg Rottland, and Berg Roseneck.
