The Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg is legendary as the steepest vineyard in the Rheingau, where dramatic slate and quartzite slopes plunge at angles of up to 70 degrees toward the Rhine River. Towering over this majestic landscape are the medieval ruins of Ehrenfels Castle, which lends its name to the 'Schlossberg' site. In this extreme microclimate, the river acts as a giant mirror, reflecting sunlight and warmth onto the vines, while the dark slate soils absorb heat by day and radiate it back by night. For this rare Beerenauslese (BA), Johannes Leitz and his team undergo a painstaking, berry-by-berry selection process in the vineyard, harvesting only those grapes perfectly shriveled by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). The resulting wine is a masterpiece of tension, balancing intense, honeyed sweetness with the electric, mineral-driven acidity that only ancient slate soils and the Riesling grape can provide.
