✨ Technical Specifications
Perched on some of the Rheingau's steepest inclines directly overlooking the Rhine river gorge, Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg features terraced vineyards rooted in red Taunus quartzite and weathered Devonian slate. These sheer south-facing slopes capture intense solar reflection from the water below while shielding vines from northern drafts. For this traditional Spätlese, late-harvested Riesling clusters are picked by hand at elevated natural sugar levels with intermittent noble botrytis influence. Vinification emphasizes temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel and large traditional neutral German oak casks (Stückfass), halting naturally or intentionally to retain vibrant unfermented residual sugar counterbalanced by piercing slate-driven acidity.
🍾 About the Producer
Weingut Leitz traces its familial viticultural ancestry back to 1744, though its modern renaissance commenced in 1985 when Johannes Leitz assumed control of the war-ravaged, 2.9-hectare family estate in Rüdesheim am Rhein. Through meticulous parcel acquisition and restoration of steep, historic slate and quartzite terraces, Leitz transformed the domaine into a premier Rheingau reference point. The estate's premier holdings encompass celebrated VDP.Grosse Lagen crus on the dramatic south-facing slopes of the Rüdesheimer Berg, including Berg Schlossberg, Berg Roseneck, Berg Kaisersteinfels, and Berg Rottland Hinterhaus. Farming is conducted sustainably under FAIR'N GREEN certification, employing green cover crops, pomace composting, and manual slope work. Cellar practices combine spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel and neutral Stückfass casks, yielding dry Rieslings characterized by crystalline minerality, razor-sharp tension, and phenolic depth, alongside innovative benchmarks such as the non-alcoholic Eins Zwei Zero portfolio.
