The Rüdesheimer Kirchenpfad, or 'church path,' takes its name from the historic trail that local parishioners and vintners walked on their way to the parish church of Rüdesheim. Situated on the lower slopes of the Rüdesheim hills, this vineyard benefits from a protective microclimate and a complex soil composition of loess, loam, and quartzite. These conditions are ideal for the slow onset of Botrytis cinerea (noble rot). To craft this rare Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA), Weingut Leitz undertakes an incredibly laborious harvest, where pickers meticulously select individual, shriveled, raisin-like berries directly from the vines. The resulting nectar is a masterclass in balance, where the intense, honeyed sweetness of noble rot is perfectly countered by the electric, vibrating acidity characteristic of Rheingau Riesling.
